OCEANIA
Explore Oceania's mountain paradise!
Oceania consists of 20,000 islands and occupies a third of the Earth's surface. The best-known islands are Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. Both Australia and New Zealand have beautiful mountain areas where you can enjoy plenty of hiking.
New Zealand
New Zealand consists of the North Island and the South Island. The North Island is known for its volcanic mountains and the South Island is a mix of snow-capped mountain peaks and glaciers, but also jungle.
Below, you'll find detailed information on the following treks, including difficulty level, starting and ending points, daily itinerary, and tips!
1. Tongariro Crossing: One of the most beautiful day hikes in the world is located in New Zealand. New Zealand is the land of Lord of the Rings, mountains, and pristine nature. All of this converges in this 6-hour journey spanning 19.4 km. According to many, it's the highlight of their trip to New Zealand. A true must-do when you're in New Zealand.
2. Mueller Hut: By far the most beautiful day hike I've ever done! A 360° panoramic view, surrounded by snow-capped peaks, glaciers, and the thunderous sound of breaking glacier chunks. A hike of 5.2 km and approximately 4 hours one way (plus 30 minutes to Mt. Ollivier). There's the option to stay overnight at the Müller Hut, where the starry sky reportedly shines brilliantly at night! However, booking this far in advance is necessary.
